Positively Philadelphia: Delaware River Gets All Jazzed Up

By Lauren Lipton

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Drew Nugent and the Midnight Society will be one of the featured acts at Jazz Age on the Delaware, one big party for a good cause.

"Jazz Age on the Delaware is an amazing day-long celebration of music and dancing from the 1920s," says Natanya DiBona, event chair. "It's set at the Glen Foerd Mansion on the Delaware River. It's the last remaining gilded age mansion and the proceeds go to the restoration and continuing education around Glen Foerd Mansion."

DiBona says there will be food and drink, and you can bring your own picnic or pre-order one and pick it up there:

"Picnicking and dancing and music begins at 11 o'clock on Saturday, August 1st."

And you don't have to dress up, but you can DiBona says:

"Put on a boater hat, your seersucker suit, your best flapper outfit, and just come inspired by the time."

There will also be dancing lessons, shopping, games and a pie-baking contest.

"The pie contest is very exciting," says DiBona. "We've already gotten a number of entries for it. There are four categories: there's a fruit and a sweet pie category, savory pies, a boozy pie category, and most original."

The mansion is one block from the Torresdale train station. There will be a shuttle bus from off-site parking.
