'The Dog Days Of Summer' Hits Chestnut Hill

By Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's mid-July, which means we are officially in Dog Days of Summer, which is something a local Philadelphia neighborhood is taking advantage of.

Dogs brought their people to the 2nd annual 'Dog Days of Summer Event' on Germantown Avenue. Kate O'Neill is with the Business District.

"This is a great event for Chestnut Hill because Chestnut Hill is a dog friendly neighborhood," O'Neill says.

Among the vendors, 'The Finding Shelter Animal Rescue', where Kelly works was proudly represented in Germantown.

"We have Eli who is an Australia shepard mix," Kelly says. "And Cindy Loo and Holly Who who are both chihuahua mixes."

Noa came out with her parents to pick out one of the many available pups, for her dog Pookie.

"My mom, she had a dog named Zeke that was getting old," Noa said. "And then everyday Pookie came to play with Zeke, and Zeke stayed alive longer."

And for those who were interested in the 'YAPPY' hour, there are places to sit and drink like Campbell's restaurant and the Chestnut Hill Grill. On the menu, 'barkaritas' and Snoop Doggs.
