Officials In Upper Darby Hold Community Safety Meeting

By Justin Udo

UPPER DARBY, Pa., (CBS) -- Upper Darby Police held a town hall meeting at a diner Monday evening to help people learn what they can do to stay safe over the summer.

During the meeting police gave tips on everything from home safety, to how you can better protect your vehicle.

Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says there are simple things people can do to help them stay safe like knowing where you are, knowing who's around you being aware of your surroundings.

"Any time the police officers can act in a proactive way with any community members, it's a home run. It's always a home run, because people then have a chance to express what they feel ask the questions that are important to them," said Superintendent Chitwood.

Minister Denise Outlaw helped organize the event.

She says part of helping everyone stay safe, is building relationships.

"The goal of this, is really to bridge the gap between our community and local officials," said Minister Outlaw.

Minister Outlaw says they plan on holding more of these meetings in the future as they look to improve the perception of the police by people in the neighborhood.
