5 Arrested For Alleged Attack On High School Student In Germantown

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Five high school students face serious charges after their alleged assault on another student in Germantown was caught on video and went viral.

The five attackers have been arrested following the vicious and allegedly unprovoked attack.

It happened on the 6500 block of Wister Street in East Germantown. The student suffered facial injuries and lost several teeth.

The video shows a 17-year-old being jumped by the other teens.

"A Martin Luther King high school student, while on his way home from school, was accosted by five of his classmates," says Captain Malachi Jones with Northwest Detectives. "This kid was an innocent person. He didn't do anything to anybody. He was approached by these individuals and asked if he was involved in a fight, which apparently occurred at the school the day before. He had nothing to do with it whatsoever."

The video also showed several onlookers who didn't do anything to help.

"This video was turned over to school officials. School officials along with us were able to identify all five perpetrators," says Captain Jones.

Residents near the high school like Gianna Spivey say they were blown away by the news:

"That's ridiculous. Why would anyone beat up someone else's child like that? It's so sad how these teenagers are acting."

The victim, who is an honor roll student, is on the mend. In the meantime, the suspects are on their way to facing felony charges of aggravated assault and recklessly endangering another person.
