Kelce: Tebow Has 'Looked Really Good So Far'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- NFL organized team activities, more commonly known as OTAs, have begun and one of the league's biggest stories is new Eagles backup quarterback Tim Tebow.

For the first time, on Thursday, Philadelphia Eagles practice will be open to the media. After practice, players will be available as well, and you can bet all microphones and cameras will be on the polarizing Tebow.

Apparently, the former Heisman Trophy winner has impressed at least one new teammate so far.

"He's looked really good in OTA's so far, especially with a lot of the read-option plays and the keeps and things like that," Eagles center Jason Kelce said of Tebow on Thursday during the 94WIP Morning Show. "So, I think we have some good quality players, and some good quality competition, and some guys that will be able to win us some football games at that position."

While Kelce admits he's not sure what the plan is, he isn't ruling out the possibility of Kelly using Tebow in certain packages in order to utilize his skill set.

"Obviously, Tim is great in short yardage," Kelce explained. "Sam [Bradford] can throw the ball extremely well down field. Mark's [Sanchez] a very good overall quarterback. I don't know if we're going to end up doing that, but I can see that happening."

One Eagle who has lined up on the offensive line with Kelce throughout his entire four-year career, is two-time Pro Bowl guard Evan Mathis. Mathis, 33, is under contract for $5.5 million and $6 million the next two seasons, respectively. Mathis is seeking a new deal, however, and hasn't participated in any voluntary team activities.

"He's locked in for another two years, so he doesn't have a lot of leverage here," Kelce explained. He wants more money and the team feels like they got him for a fair price and that's where it's at."

When push comes to shove, Mathis will be an Eagle this season. Right?

"I can't answer that," Kelce said. "I'll say that will probably be entirely up to Evan. I mean, at this point I would think he would be. I don't know what his options are. I think he's only really got one option, unless he wants to lose a lot of money this year. I haven't had anything to indicate that he won't be here for training camp.
