Weekend Box Office Report: 'Pitch Perfect 2' Hits High Note

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- New sequels dominated at the box office this weekend.
Pitch Perfect 2, the a cappella comedy follow-up starring Anna Kendrick, finished first with an estimated $70-million.
In second place was the debuting action thriller, Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth installment in the Mad Max franchise, with Tom Hardy annd Charlize Theron. It took in $44-million.
Dropping to third was the box office leader of the last two weekends, Avengers: Age of Ultron, which added to its impressive cumulative total of over $370-million with another $39-million.
Rounding out the top five were the holdovers Hot Pursuit and yet another sequel, Furious 7, with $6-million and $4-million, respectively.
Overall, industry-wide totals were well above those on the counterpart weekend last year.
