One Dead After Two Trucks Collide In Fiery Crash In Lower Providence

LOWER PROVIDENCE, Pa. (CBS) -- One person is dead after a two trucks collided in a fiery crash in Lower Providence, Montgomery County.

It happened around 6 a.m. Monday at South Park Avenue and Crawford Road in Lower Providence Township.

Authorities say a tanker truck carrying human waste collided with a tractor trailer carrying a non-toxic base, or makeup foundation.

The crash touched off a fire which was quickly put out, but a white substance covered the road and dozens of the barrels were spilled out on the street.

Police confirmed the driver of the sewage tanker was killed in the accident.

South Park Avenue is shutdown between Eagleville Road and Ridge Avenue while crews cleaned up the mess.

As a precaution, a hazmat team was also called to the scene and neighbors were ordered to shelter-in-place.  Crews later determined there was no environmental danger.

The Lower Providence Police Chief  Francis Carroll says, "We think there is some damage to the roadway due to the fire. We're anticipating the roadway will be closed for a period of time, at least into the evening in regard to the investigation and the clean up."

There was no immediate word on the condition of the second truck driver.
