The Haven At Drexel: A Housing Option For Students Trying To Stay Clean

By Lynne Adkins

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- Drinks and drugs are not uncommon on college campuses, making it hard for students trying to stay clean. There's a housing option that may help.

The Haven at Drexel is a residence for students in recovery. No alcohol or drugs are allowed in the building, and students must stay clean.

Program Director Rosalie Genova meets with students weekly, because staying on the right path isn't easy in a campus setting.

"They also have a community meeting which is like a house meeting in which they discuss who is doing which chores this week, but it's also a place to discuss a need for support," Genova says. "We have two 12-step meetings a week, we do parent outreach and work with any other treatment providers the students may be using."

Students are randomly tested for banned substances, and if they don't abide by the rules - they're evicted.
