Awards Ceremony In Philadelphia Honors Females Making A Difference In Technology And Other Fields

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Who are the RADDEST in all of Philadelphia? An awards ceremony next weekend honors the women making a difference in technology and other fields.

Among the 13 categories, there are trophies for educator of the year and best product.

"Morgan Berman for 'MilkCrate Philly' -- her app teaches people how to make sustainable decisions. Another one of my favorites in that category is Patrice Banks of 'Girls Auto Clinic.' She runs an auto clinic to teach women how to fix their cars. For nonprofit of the year, 'Girl Develop It' is nominated and they have a huge following in the Philadelphia area, and they teach women and actually a lot of guys how to code."

Leah Kauffman runs Rad-Girls.com and is hosting the Rad Awards on Saturday at The Dreaming Building at 618 N. Front Street.

"It's a celebration of women in technology, media, culture, and business."

It comes at the start of Philly Tech Week, where she says more contributions of women will be front and center.

"There are a lot of positive things happening in Philadelphia right now. There's a lot of unity among women in the community."

They'll even pick a Rad Guy of the Year. For tickets: http://rad-girls.ticketleap.com/radawards
