PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Pennsylvania governor Tom Wolf brought his “Jobs That Pay” tour to West Philadelphia today.

Flanked by state senator Vincent Hughes (D-Phila.) and City Council members Jannie Blackwell and Curtis Jones, the governor spoke to automotive tech students on the west regional campus of Community College of Philadelphia.

Under Wolf’s proposed budget for the next fiscal year, CCP could see a funding increase of nearly $2 million.  Wolf admits his challenge will be convincing the Republican-dominated legislature to sign off on what sees as an “investment” in the future of young Pennsylvanians.

“We have such great institutions of higher education,” he noted.  “We need to make sure we are adequately investing in them, not least of which are community colleges just like this one.   We need the practical education that you get here.”

In addition to more funding, Wolf is proposing to restore $1 billion in previous cuts to public education that were made under his predecessor, Tom Corbett.
