Despite Plowing Efforts, Roads Quickly Re-coated With Snow In Chester County
By Walt Hunter
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Snow began falling heavily in Chester County communities along the Route 202 corridor around 5 a.m.
By noontime, nearly six inches had accumulated in Paoli, Devon and Great Valley.
Despite efforts by plow trains, even major highways like Lancaster Avenue and Route 202 were quickly recoated with fast falling flakes that left them slow and slippery.
SEPTA's Paoli-Thorndale Regional Rail Line and suburban bus routes largely stayed close to schedule, although ridership was light due to many schools and businesses closing early.
Fortunately, in the first hours of the storm, there were few reports of serious accidents or power outages.
