Police: Amber Alert Canceled; Missing Del. Girl And Father Found Safe

NEW CASTLE, Del. (CBS) -- Police say an Amber Alert has been canceled and three-year-old Elinor Trotta has been found safe in Spencer, Massachusetts Tuesday afternoon.

Police say her father Michael Trotta was also located there.

"Today is my birthday and I prayed all day to God that I would get her back and he gave me the best birthday present ever," said Dawn Barkus.

Tuesday New Castle Police and the FBI announced it's over.

"The Amber Alert for Elinor has been canceled at this time."

Police say at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, less than 24 hours after she went missing, the FBI located three-year-old Elinor Trotta unharmed with her father Michael Trotta.

FBI Special Agent Jack Webb says they tracked Trotta to an apartment complex in Spencer, Massachusetts and made an arrest without resistance.

"This is an example of when state local law enforcement multiple jurisdictions work together rapidly to achieve a victory," said Special Agent Webb.

Police say 43-year-old Michael Trotta allegedly abducted Elinor Monday night from New Castle after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend Dawn.

By Tuesday afternoon Dawn was planning her reunion.

"I'm just gonna squeeze her, and hug her and kiss her," she said.

Eyewitness News reports Trotta is facing a number of charges including endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held in Massachusetts without bail awaiting extradition to Delaware.
