Richard Stockton College In New Jersey Upgrading To University Status

GALLOWAY, N.J. (AP) -- A New Jersey college is being upgraded to university status this week.

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey will officially become Stockton University on Wednesday.

That comes after school officials were recently notified that the state college Presidents' Council, and Secretary of Higher Education Rochelle Hendricks, had both approved the change.

The college's Board of Trustees plans to formally approve a new college seal at its board meeting Wednesday, followed by a campus-wide celebration.

School officials say graduates in May will get a diploma from Stockton University.

School President Herman Saatkamp says staffers have already started preparing new signage and logos, but added that the signage will be phased in gradually.
