Philadelphia School District Seeking Hundreds of Teachers For Next School Year

By Kim Glovas

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The School District of Philadelphia says it is looking to hire 400 new teachers for the next school year, and there's a new application process to make it easier.

The school district is offering a starting salary of $45,360 for applicants with no experience, and more for those with experience.

"We're looking for upper elementary, we're looking for secondary math and science," says Kendra Rosati, recruitment director for the district.  "We're always looking for special education and dual certification," she adds.

She says the application process has also been revised, to make it easier to access and upload information.  And she said she is hoping to see more traffic on their web site soon.

"Stories like this are just going to help us broadcast even more broadly that we're hiring," she tells KYW Newsradio.  "So we expect, throughout February, to see a pretty big increase in applications."

The application can be accessed at philasd.org/careers.
