Aqua Pennsylvania Reminds Customers To Be Diligent After Imposter Strikes In Bristol Area

BRISTOL, Pa. (CBS) – Aqua Pennsylvania is warning customers to be on the lookout for utility imposters following a theft in the area on Thursday involving a suspect dressed as a worker.

Aqua president Steve Tagert says it's rare that a company employee or contractor would ever need to visit a customer's property due to the installation of the radio frequency (RF) meter reading system.

"The only time we would really need to get inside of a customer's home is at their request or to service or exchange a meter by appointment," said Tagert in a release. "In latter cases, the customer is contacted by the company via mail or by phone and an appointment is typically scheduled in advance, so that the customer knows to expect a visit. Even in those cases, we want our customers to confirm that the person who comes to their property is a legitimate Aqua representative."

Tagert also says Aqua workers are instructed to produce an ID card so that customers can see "the clearly marked Aqua logo." If the employee doesn't show the card, the customer should ask for it.

Additionally, most Aqua vehicles are white GM trucks, vans or pick-up trucks, with the Aqua logo prominently displayed. Workers generally wear fluorescent-colored clothing.

Anyone who suspects a worker is an imposter should not allow that person into their home and should call police immediately. Customers can also call Aqua's customer service department at 877-987-2782.
