Local Gardens Need Volunteers

By Phran Novelli

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - If you're off on Monday and haven't made plans to volunteer yet, why not join the Martin Luther King Day of Service at Bartram's Garden from 9 am to 12 noon?

You can pre-register by sending an email to tgreenberg@bartramsgarden.org and, for your efforts, you'll get lunch and a t-shirt as a thank you (while supplies last), in addition to the satisfaction of seeing what a difference you can make.

It's a smart way to turn a holiday into a good habit - volunteering your time and effort to improve your community. We're lucky to have so many beautiful gardens and arboretums in our area, and they depend upon volunteers to do everything from weeding to maintenance to leading tours as guides.

In fact, the Morris Arboretum is currently looking for applicants to join their Guide Training program; a 30-hour course which will take place during 11 days in March where you can learn about plants, the history of the Arboretum, how to lead a tour and more.
