After An Active Week, Weather To Quiet Down

By Geoff Bansen

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- "Hey, what's that yellow thing in the sky?"

If you happen to hear that today or tomorrow, there is no need for alarm. It's just the sun, doing its best to return after being M.I.A. for much of the week.

The stubborn system that has been plaguing us for several days is still leisurely moving away. So while clouds will still be in the picture, the sun should be returning in increasing amounts over the next 48 hours.

Temperatures will also gradually march towards seasonable, and then some. At the start of next week, we could see a few 50-somethings popping up. Sunshine and 50 degrees in mid December? We'll take it!

Overall, the pattern into next week is quiet, with only a slight chance of a late day shower on Tuesday. Otherwise, it looks like smooth sailing.

For you celestial lovers out there, the Gemenids meteor shower will be at its height on Saturday night, and viewing conditions look to be favorable!

The Gemenids are an interesting bunch for a few reasons. One is because of the angle and speed with which they enter the atmosphere; the other is that they result from an asteroid as opposed to a comet, as many other showers do. Partly cloudy skies should allow for a good glimpse, so grab a blanket and some hot cocoa and keep an eye to the sky!

Your weather for Sunday's crucial tilt between the Eagles and Cowboys is also looking nice. Go Eagles!
