National Urban League President Speaks About Plans To End Police Injustice

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The president of the National Urban League was in Philadelphia on Friday for local chapter's community empowerment luncheon at the Lowe's Hotel in Center City. But he spoke about plans to fight injustice in light of protests in Ferguson, Missouri and New York City.
"Problems, challenges, disparities within the criminal justice system have been exposed," Marc Morial, president of the National Urban League, said during a press conference on Friday.
He announced a five-year, $1-million investment into the Philadelphia Urban League, but responded to questions concerning recent protests and unrest following grand jury decisions over the Michael Brown case in Ferguson and the Eric Garner case in Staten Island. He said peaceful protests must continue as leaders work for police and court reforms happen on both state and national level.
"We have a set of issues in the country, crying out for reforms," he said. "This is the time when every city and every state should engage in comprehensive reviews, every citizen should ask what is our police deadly force policy."
Morial said 25 civil rights organizations will hold a march in Washington, DC on December 13. They are also planning a social justice summit early next year.
"We'll have as an objective substantive recommendations for the federal level and the state level criminal justice reforms," he said.
He also said he expects more protests until change happens.
