PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — On Thursday, the Delaware 87ers, the official NBA Development League franchise for the Sixers, announced a partnership with WNBA star Elena Delle Donne.

The partnership with Delle Donne resonates in the community as Delle Donne starred for the University of Delaware while in college. Delle Donne’s official title with the team will be Goodwill Ambassador and Spokesperson for the 2014-15 season.

Delle Donne’s name will also be attached to a six-game ticket pack that will feature games and events that the former Delaware star will be in attendance for.

“I am thrilled to join the 87ers this season as an Ambassador and so thankful for the unique vision they’ve demonstrated bringing me on,” Delle Donne said on Thursday. Delle Donne expressed a level of excitement in partnering with a team that represents a state that meant so much to her basketball career.

Delle Donne is currently a member of the Chicago Sky. Last season she averaged 17.9 points, four rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game while leading the Sky to an Eastern Conference title. Her sky team lost in the WNBA Finals to the Phoenix Mercury.

Delle Donne was also named the 2013 WNBA Rookie of the Year after being selected second by Chicago in that year’s draft.
