Coach, Mom Charged After Underage Drinking Party

MERCER, Pa. (AP) -- Police have charged a high school baseball coach and the mother of a student for an underage drinking party at the coach's Pennsylvania home last month.

Jefferson Township police say police broke up the party Oct. 6 at the home of 53-year-old Glynn Boitnott, and charged him and 47-year-old Marcella Edwards with conspiracy and corruption of minors.

Police say the party was held after Mercer High School's homecoming dance and that Boitnott was the school's baseball coach in the spring. Police say teen guests told them Boitnott and Edwards were both at the party, allegedly hosted by Edwards' son, before police arrived.

Defense attorney Jack Cline denies the adults—who he says are friends—were ever at or condoned the party.

School officials say Boitnott has yet to be rehired as coach for the coming spring.
