SugarHouse Renews Effort To Kill Plans For Second Philly Casino

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — SugarHouse Casino is renewing its effort to scuttle plans for a second casino in Philadelphia.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is considering four applications for the city's second casino license. SugarHouse says the region's gambling market is already saturated, citing a decline in slots revenue in Pennsylvania and the industry's "implosion" in nearby Atlantic City, New Jersey, where four casinos have closed this year.

The casino says gambling regulators have a duty to consider the impact a second casino would have on the market. SugarHouse is petitioning the board to take additional testimony and evidence before making a decision to award the license.

The board held hearings on the license in January. A board spokesman declined comment on the SugarHouse petition Friday.

SugarHouse opened in September 2010.
