Youth Groups Rally Near City Hall For Election Day Support

By Cherri Gregg

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Several local youth groups held a rally today outside the Municipal Services Building, across from Philadelphia City Hall, to ask voters to be their voice on this election day.

They may be too young to cast a ballot, they point out, but they're not too young to speak out.

"We need you adults to be our voice and make sure you get the right person to be there for us," said 16-year-old Gabby (no last name given), one of about two dozen young people who spoke to voters, letting them know that for youth, this election is extremely important.  "These schools are messed up and we don't want our next generation, our younger kids, to grow up in such a messed up community," she said.

"This election has to do with education, so we wanted to make sure the kids have a voice," said Alex Peay of Rising Sons, one of the rally organizers of the rally.  "We had some music, dancing.   All the youth had fliers that they are passing out to pedestrians, telling them information about voting and asking them to go out and vote today."

Other organizing groups included Youth For Change and Project Positive dancers.
