Working Moms Need To Seek Simple Healthy Solutions

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - When it comes to our overall health, there is no doubt that what happens in the outside world can have both a direct and an indirect effect on our lives.

A perfect example is finances - making ends meet is always a big issue - financial stresses and the fact that many families are dependent on both mom and dad working.

Think about it. If you're a working mother, it's easy to ignore. After all, it's something you do day after day. If you're stressed, it shouldn't make you feel guilty. There may be no more difficult job than being a mother, and certainly no more important one. But when you add the pressures of work and the time pressures of combining the two, it can be a major cause of stress.

There are several things you can do to help.

The first is be realistic. You need to set goals that you can achieve. One of the best things you can do is make projects and be reasonable about them. At home, pick a small task each day; one that's easy to achieve.

If you have other things come up, you can deal with them a lot better.
