By Jim Donovan: The process of planning and paying for college can certainly put a strain on your wallet. It can also put a strain on your family relationships. Both 'Paying for College: Emotionally Invested' workshops will cover the following topics:

• Exploring financial aid options
• Discovering how much college really costs
• Reviewing ways to reduce student loan debt
• Managing the emotional impact of college on students, parents and siblings
• Learning how to adapt to changes in the family dynamic during the college planning process

"The process of planning and paying for college can certainly be an overwhelming one for families. Our workshops will help them navigate the various financial options," says Chris Chaplin, College Planning Advisor for Clarifi College. "At the same time we'll also start a conversation about strategies to reduce future student loan debt."

"Preparing for college isn't just about the college tours, the finances and the admissions process. Sending a daughter or son off to college stirs up many emotions for families," says Wanda Sevey, Senior Staff Therapist and New Jersey Office Director for Council for Relationships. "It just makes sense for families to prepare emotionally as well as academically and financially for college life."

Clarifi College is a nonprofit college planning service that helps families create personalized plans to pay for college. As part of the service, families meet with college planners who provide them with financial aid projections, a 4-6 year funding plan and strategies to avoid unnecessary debt—ultimately helping families save time and money.
