Cops: Caller Tries To Obtain Victim's Credit Card Information By Impersonating A Police Officer

MIDDLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (CBS) – Lower Township Police are investigating a suspicious phone call where a male impersonated a police officer and tried to obtain another man's credit card information.

On Friday, October 17, a Lower Township business manager received a call at his workplace from a man pretending to be a Middle Township Police Detective. The caller asked for the man's credit card numbers and account names from the previous day's receipts. He claimed he was investigating a credit card fraud case.

The business manager placed the caller on hold and contacted Middle Township Police to confirm there was no such detective who worked there.

The manager then returned to the conversation and tried to obtain as much information as possible from the caller to help the police with their investigation.

An investigation has yielded no suspects so far.

Anyone with information on the suspect is urged to call Middle Township Police at 609-465-8700 or Lower Township Police Department at 609-886-1619, extension 116.
