Teen Girl Shot In Wissinoming

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating a shooting that injured a teenage girl in Northeast Philadelphia.

It happened shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday along the 5900 block of Cottage Street in the city's Wissinoming section.

Authorities say a 17-year-old girl was sitting with a man on the porch of her grandmother's house when another man approached and an argument ensued. Police say that's when the gunman fired five shots, striking the girl once in her arm.

Police say the girl ran, but the shooter chased her, allegedly firing more shots, hitting several homes in the process. The shooter then fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended and arrested a short time later.

Police say there was already a warrant out for the suspect's arrest, and several witnesses helped identify him.

"We have numerous witnesses on this mainly residential block," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "Fortunately, numerous witnesses did cooperate with police, not only telling us a good description so we were able to apprehend this individual, but also positively identifying our suspect when he was brought back to the location."

The girl was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in stable condition. The man who was sitting with her was not injured.

There was no immediate word on charges.
