Phillies Turn To Red Hot Hamels As Series In New York Continues
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) --- The Phillies will battle the Mets again tonight up in New York.
The Phillies will be looking to bounce back after losing the opener in this series last night, 7-1. A.J. Burnett was not sharp in that one, allowing all 7 runs in 5 innings of work to fall to 6-10. Phillies managed to score just the one run despite banging out 13 hits.
Cole Hamels gets the ball for Ryne Sandberg tonight. The left-hander is 5-5 this season but he has been outstanding as of late. In his last 4 starts, Hamels is 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA. He beat the Giants with 8 dominant innings his last time out at CBP. Now in his career, Hamels is just 7-14 against the Mets with a 4.38 ERA. But his last two starts against New York have been much more "Hamels-like" as he allowed just 2 earned runs in 14 innings of work, settling for a pair of no-decisions.
The Mets counter with right-hander Dillon Gee who is 4-3 this season. He is 3-3 in his career against the Phillies, with an ERA of 7.15 in 11 appearances (10 starts).
Phillies have struggled with the Mets this season, after last night they are now 3-7 in 10 games with New York in 2014.
