MOUNT LAUREL, N.J., (CBS) – An eighth grade student died Wednesday afternoon after collapsing at gym class, school district officials said.

It happened at Harrington Middle School in the 500 block of Mount Laurel Road in Mount Laurel.

District officials say the student collapsed during routine activity and the school’s crisis team immediately responded, followed by police and EMTs.

He was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

District counselors and the Burlington County School Crisis Team will provide additional support for Harrington Middle School staff and students Thursday at the school.

The incident is under investigation by the Mount Laurel Police Department.
