PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Americans were asked in a recent poll to, in effect, choose between two vices: internet gaming or recreational marijuana.

New Jersey is one of four states now offering online betting within its borders. Fairleigh Dickinson’s Public Mind poll asked 1,100 plus adults nationwide if that’s such a good idea.

“63-percent of people are currently opposed to any kind of attempt to make online gambling legal nationwide with a quarter who actually approve of it,” poll director Krista Jenkins says.

They’re a little more agreeable to pot, with 50-percent giving it a thumbs up while 44-percent vote it down.

And when forced to choose between the two, marijuana wins 52-20 over betting.

Washington State and Colorado allow for people to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. A New Jersey legislator is trying to push a similar proposal, but it doesn’t appear to be getting much support.
