America's First Construction-Themed Amusement Park Coming To South Jersey This Summer
WEST BERLIN, N.J., (CBS) -- A construction-themed amusement park being built in South Jersey has announced a grand opening date.
Diggerland USA will open its doors to the public on Saturday, June 14th at 10 a.m.
The 14-acre theme park is located at 100 Pinedge Drive in West Berlin, N.J.
The developers say it's the first construction-themed amusement park in North America.
Visitors will have access to 23 on-site attractions. The rides have been engineered to allow parents and children to dig, drive and ride real-sized construction equipment.
The theme park is being built by the owners of Sahara Sam's Oasis, an indoor and outdoor water park in West Berlin, N.J. Plans for Diggerland USA were unveiled in January.
"The opportunity to take the concept of a construction theme park and make it our own was very exciting for us," said Ilya Girlya, CEO of Sahara Sam's and Diggerland USA in a press release.
The Girlya family owns and operates SAMBE General Contracting which is overseeing the construction of Diggerland USA.
"My family has a very personal connection to the project, just as we did with Sahara Sam's five years ago," Girlya said in the statement. "Construction has been in my family for many years so it was a natural fit for us to build a construction theme park."
There are already four Diggerland parks in the United Kingdom with locations in Devon, Durham, Kent, and Yorkshire.
