Skunk Tests Positive For Rabies In Egg Harbor Township

EGG HARBOR Twp., N.J. (CBS) – A homeowner in Egg Harbor Township contacted an animal control officer after a dog she was pet sitting killed a skunk in the backyard.

The skunk was collected from the property on Betsy Scull Road and testing confirmed positive for rabies.

An investigation by the Division of Public Health determined that the dog was up-to-date with its rabies vaccination, but as a precautionary measure, it received a rabies booster and will be closely monitored for 45 days.

Atlantic County reported eight positive rabies cases last year, four of which were raccoons, two bats and two cats.
