Weekend Box Office: 'The Lego Movie' Stays On Top
By Bill Wine
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On the year's seventh weekend, a busy one bookended by Valentine's Day and Presidents Day, The Lego Movie – to no one's surprise -- continued to rule at the box office.
The animated comedy earned an estimated $49-million on its second weekend of release for another convincing first-place finish.
Second place went to a new attraction, the romantic-comedy remake, About Last Night, with Kevin Hart and Regina Hall. It debuted with a take of $27-million.
In third place was the debuting action-sci-fi-thriller remake, RoboCop, which took in $22-million.
The weekend's other two romantic attractions opening on Valentine's Day also finished in the top ten:
The teen-aimed romantic drama, Endless Love, yet another remake, was fourth with $13-million.
And the romantic fantasy, Winter's Tale, with Colin Farrell -- took in $8-million, good for seventh place.
Overall, industry-wide totals were well above those of the counterpart weekends the last two years.
