Yogurt May Help Diabetes

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Many years ago there was a popular advertisement that focused on people in another country who lived past one hundred years of age. The advertiser credited yogurt in the diet as the major reason. A new study might not predict one hundred years of life for yogurt enthusiasts but they found that yogurt nearly every day may help fight diabetes.

Researchers at the University of Cambridge compared the health and food diary data of nearly 900 people with diabetes, as well as those without the condition.

After following these subjects for 11 years, they found 4-1/2 servings of yogurt each week reduced the chances of developing diabetes by almost 30%.
