Weather Blog: Winter Weary and Getting Wearier

BLOG: Winter Weary and Getting Wearier

By Carol Erickson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Will it ever stop? Many people wonder that, after a brutally cold and difficult January. Another round of snow will eyeball the Philadelphia area and decide to go for it.

Expect from 1 to 3 inches of snow in Philadelphia and the surrounding suburbs, and 3 to 5 inches of snow to the north and west.

The latest in a series of clipper systems gets the blame again for the cold and snowy weather. Saturday's snow will freshen up the tired looking snow still on the ground from Tuesday's monster 14 inch storm.

Relief from the cold only comes inside your house. Outside temperatures keep the familiar theme of below freezing to even further below freezing numbers.

Computer models, which have done a poor job of predicting the storms with any kind of lead time, don't agree on chances of snow in the area on Sunday and/or Monday. For now, the focus is on Saturday's disruptive snow, which could come down heavily for a time and stick immediately on the sub-freezing surfaces.

It can't be said enough in this cold, based on the tragedies already reported: check on elderly friends and neighbors and bring your pets inside. This is deadly cold for any pet not allowed in a heated house. Any person without heat in their house will suffer the same. Do the right thing in this extreme weather and look out for anyone who can't look out for themselves.
