Beer-flavored Jelly Beans To Hit Stores This Spring

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Here's a candy that probably won't show up in the kids' Easter baskets this spring: beer-flavored jelly beans.

They're the latest from beloved candy company Jelly Belly, who says the new flavor took three years to perfect.

"Beer connoisseurs will find the flavor profile to be clean with notes of wheat and a touch of sweetness," Jelly Belly claims in a press release.

Reminiscent of a German Hefeweizen, the iridescent gold-colored Draft Beer Jelly Belly beans are also described as "effervescent and crisp."

"Anyone who enjoys a good, cold beer will enjoy Draft Beer Jelly Belly beans for the simple fact that it tastes just as you'd imagine," Rob Swaigen, vice president of marketing for the company, says.

Though this isn't the first alcohol-inspired offering from Jelly Belly (Mojito, anyone?), it is the company's first foray into beer-flavored beans. And while the the tiny candies don't contain any alcohol, at just four calories a bite, they're a lot better for you than a pint of brewski.

According to Jelly Belly, the new beans will make their much-anticipated debut later this month at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco and ISM in Cologne, Germany.
