Woman Shot During Attempted Robbery In West Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS/AP) — A woman was shot and wounded after she refused to give her bag to a would-be robber in West Philadelphia.

Police say the 49-year-old woman was walking along the 3900 block of Poplar Street around 1:30 a.m. Saturday when a man in a gray hooded sweatshirt pointed a gun at her face and ordered her to give him her handbag.

The woman refused to turn over the bag and tried to walk away. Police say the gunman then pointed the gun at her leg and fired, wounding her in the left thigh, then fired two more shots before running to his car and fleeing the scene.

The woman, whom police did not identify, was admitted to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.

No arrests have been made.

Police continue to investigate.
