Snow Argument Leads To Violence, Arrest In Overbrook

By Mike Dougherty

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - A pile of snow sparked an argument Friday afternoon that eventually led to the arrest of a man who lost his cool in the Overbrook Park section of Philadelphia.

Police say two neighbors didn't see eye-to-eye on who was responsible for removing a pile of snow from in front of their homes in the 7600 block of Wyndale Avenue.

The two got into a heated argument, and a 50-year-old man allegedly pulled out a box cutter and attempted to slice the other man.

After swinging and missing 3 times, police say he dropped the box cutter and grabbed a shovel then chased after the 57-year-old victim. The victim told police the suspect also flashed a handgun.

Police arrived as a third person was trying to break up the scuffle. The suspect ran into his house.

Responding officers called in the SWAT team when the suspect refused to answer the door. After a short negotiation, the 50-year-old gave himself up and was taken into custody.

No handgun was recovered and nobody was hurt.
