Rain, Sleet, Snow Cause Many Delays, Cancellations At PHL
By John McDevitt
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Sunday's snow storm caught many people off guard, including staff at Philadelphia International Airport.
Because of the bad weather locally and elsewhere, PHL is experiencing delays and cancellations. There was only a single runway operating during the height of the storm.
"So while we are clearing one, we are able to use another one. We do have four runways," Airport spokeswoman Victoria Lupica explains.
There was also a ground stop in effect for a while, which means planes headed to Philly were held in other cities until things cleared up.
"It was just a little more than all of us anticipated," Lupica said
And she says hospitality crews were trying to make travel more comfortable for folks spending additional time than they wanted to at the airport. They passed out pillows and blankets, and organized activities for kids.
