Weather Blog: The Lull Before The Winter Wet

By Carol Erickson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Saturday serves as a quiet transition day between Friday's mild rain and Sunday's cold wet. Computer models agree that wet weather moves in on Sunday, preceded by cloud cover early in the day.

By midday, moisture from the southwest will begin streaming into the area. With temperatures in the middle 30's, snow can fall initially.

Warmer air will get pulled into the system, forcing a change over to sleet and then to rain the later it gets on Sunday and the early morning hours on Monday.

Amounts should be unimpressive – generally on the order of 1 inch. Anything that does fall gets washed away by rain or melted by above freezing temperatures by Monday morning.

Still, commutes will be slow especially to the north even into the early hours on Monday. After that, cold temperatures settle into the area right through the end of the week.
