Small Business Award Nominations Now Being Accepted

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - For more than 50 years, the U.S. Small Business Administration has been recognizing outstanding achievements of America's small businesses.

Nominations are now being accepted for small business person of the year and other award categories.

Just in Eastern Pennsylvania's 40 counties alone there are 727,000 small businesses.

"What we look for is the absolute best of the best of the best," Dave Dickson, district director at the SBA, says.

Dickson says nominations are being accepted for a number of awards:

"And it's a national program all of the way going from the Small Business Person of the year award, all the way down to our local resource partners, the small business development centers, women business centers and VBOC -- Veterans Business Outreach Centers.

Dickson adds there are no cash prizes, just honor rights:

"We are a federal agency, so there is no money involved. We want to honor those business that are bringing back jobs and economic wealth things like that to their community."

Submissions must be made no later than January 17th.
