Nutter: City Funding Must Be Increased To Promote Philadelphia

By John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - More than a thousand hospitality workers gathered at a Center City hotel Wednesday for the annual Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau luncheon.

Among the speakers was Mayor Michael Nutter. He told the group assembled for the luncheon that city funding must be increased to promote and market the city across America and around the world.

How much money are we talking about?

"We haven't made that determination," Nutter said. "That's a discussion that we need to have with the rest of the stake holders in the hospitality industry to see what we have been doing over the past few years. I think we need to have a full evaluation of all the different dollars that get spent on the promotion and marketing of the City of Philadelphia."

The mayor says he doesn't make predictions what the city budget is going to look like way before budget season, but says its something on his mind.
