New Jersey Online Gaming 'Soft Play' Begins Tonight

By David Madden

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) - Internet gambling starts in New Jersey, sort of, at 6pm tonight with what's being called "soft play".

Call it an eight-hour warm up to the real start on Tuesday. Casinos are inviting selected guests to go online to play with real money, while they get the kinks out of the system. David Rebuck is director of the state Division of Gaming Enforcement.

"We'll reconvene after those eight hours, hopefully not find too many problems," he said. "Eight hours the next day, hopefully less problems. 16 the following day, 24-24 the last two days."

If all goes according to plan, online gaming will open within the state at 9 Tuesday morning. You'll have to set up an account with a casino first and yes -- they have software to make sure you're inside the state.

Online gaming is also offered within Delaware and Nevada.
