Man Arrested For Allegedly Vandalizing Nearly 100 Trees In Tredyffrin Park

By Robin Culverwell

TREDYFFRIN Twp., Pa., (CBS) -- A Berwyn man has a December court date on charges he vandalized, and in some cases destroyed, eight dozen trees in Tredyffrin Township.

Nathaniel Lent, 20, is charged with damaging the saplings last month in Tredyffrin's Wilson Farm Park.

"There was a rage, fueled by the use of drugs and alcohol, specifically Xanax," Tredyffrin Detective Sgt. Todd Bereda said.

Bereda says Lent confessed to authorities he goes to the park often and viewed the planting of 96 saplings as a hindrance to his enjoyment.

"The trees were either pulled out, bent over, broken, unstaked," Bereda said.

All 96 of them. The workers and volunteers who had planted the trees salvaged those they could, but had to replace some of them.
