Weekend Box Office Report: Thor Hammers The Competition
By Bill Wine
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Opening weekend was anything but dark for the sequel to Thor.
Thor: The Dark World debuted with an estimated whopping $86-million and a runaway first-place finish on its initial box-office weekend.
The only new attraction in the top ten.
Second place went to the prank comedy, Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, which took in over $11-million.
The animated comedy, Free Birds, was third and the comedy, Last Vegas, fourth, each with just over $11-million.
And the science fiction adventure, Ender's Game, rounded out the top five with $10-million.
Overall, industry-wide totals were the equivalent of those of a year ago.
