Del. Grad Student Charged With Raping Another Student

WILMINTON, Del. (CBS) – A graduate student at a Delaware college has been arrested on charges he raped another student.

Police say that on Sunday, Nov. 10 around 3 a.m., an 18-year-old female student met Carlos E. Bastardo, 23, at his apartment in the Jay W. Miller Hall on the campus of Goldey-Beacom College.

Once inside the apartment, Bastardo allegedly began making unwanted sexual advances towards the victim and eventually raped her.

The victim was able to free herself, and she fled the apartment before going to a local hospital for treatment.

State police were called, and they were able to take Bastardo into custody on campus without incident.

Bastardo is now facing charges of Rape Second Degree without Consent. He is being held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $120,000 cash bond.
