Health Risks While Travelling

By Dr. Brian McDonough, Medical Editor

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Traveling can be fun but it is not without risk.

According to a new report from Boston University, diabetes, heart and lung diseases, elderly status, and pregnancy can increase your risk for catching dangerous diseases while going to other countries.

The researchers found that high-risk travelers were seeking medical care too late for comprehensive care while travelLing. Many Americans with common diseases such as diabetes may not realize the higher risk they have when travelling outside the US.

Early preparation for travel is also vital in arming yourself properly against new exposures.

I think this is the biggest point: if you have an underlying illness you should check with your doctor and go over potential risks that could impact your health.
