Old City Walking Tour Focuses on History of Those Who Served

By John Ostapkovich

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Old City section of Philadelphia is dotted with monuments and memorials to pioneers and fallen heroes, and there is now a free brochure that ties them all together.

Today, tourism officials took the inaugural "Honor, Sacrifice, and Freedom Tour," with 13 sights in Philadelphia and one in Camden (at the Battleship New jersey, which you'll just be able to look at from across the Delaware River).

Tour leader Michael Flynn, of the Independence Seaport Museum, says a partnership among those running local landmarks -- including Christ Church and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial -- produced "a self-guided tour option that can be picked up at the Independence Visitors Center," in the form of a map.  "And if you'd like a guided option, you can call Independence Seaport Museum and we can walk you through those monuments and explain more in depth about the history of each one."

The tour takes an hour or two, depending on your walking speed, since you'll start at 6th and Market Streets and end down at Penn's Landing after making several interesting detours.
