VP Biden: Son Had Successful Procedure In Texas

By Ian Bush

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden is getting out of the hospital on Thursday and will head back to Delaware.

The 44-year-old is in "great shape," according to his parents.

Vice President Joe and Dr Jill Biden say in a statement that Beau had a "successful procedure" at the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston -- though they don't elaborate.

Three years ago, Beau suffered a mild stroke. Last week during a family trip, he felt weak and disoriented, and was admitted to a hospital in Chicago and consulted with his doctor in Philadelphia before going to Texas and that top cancer center on Monday. Doctors are trying to figure out what caused those symptoms, and the Bidens' statement says their son will follow up with local physicians in the coming weeks.

The Delaware Department of Justice says Beau has working on state matters from his hospital bed.
