CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) – Investigators in Camden say a woman in her 50's was killed inside her home by a stray bullet early Friday morning.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. along the 1200 block of Mechanics Street in Camden.

Investigators say the victim, 53-year-old Consuelo Lowber, was inside her home when gunfire erupted outside. At least two stray gunshots went into the home, striking and killing the victim.

The victim's roommate, Rosa Jones, says the victim was watching TV on the couch when the shots rang out and she was struck in the face and chest. Jones believes the shooting was a gunman taking aim at the wrong house.

"I'm very upset about it," said the victim's friend Amy Morgan.

She lives two blocks away and was Lowber's long time friend.

"Last night I was on the couch and I heard the gun shots, but I had no idea that was her," said Morgan.

She says Lowber had her children and grandchildren, but was friendly with everyone's children in the neighborhood. She was living in the house where she was shot for just a few months.

"They need to do something about these crimes in Camden, New Jersey," said Jones.

Police have no suspects. Detectives on the scene were trying to determine where the gunfire came from and who fired the shots.

A neighbor near where the shooting happened confirmed that mostly older people live on the block and this is the first shooting on the block she can remember.
