Rash Of Copper Thefts Hit Cape May County

WOODBINE, N.J., (CBS) – New Jersey State Police are investigating a rash of copper thefts throughout Cape May County.

Authorities say the incidents began on May 12th with thefts reported in Dennis, Upper, and Middle Townships.

According to State Police, thieves are taking air conditioning units, copper pipes and wire from businesses, churches, and medical offices.

The incidents were reported at Route 9, Tuckahoe Road, Court House-South Dennis Road, Clermont Drive, Hagan Road, East Orchard Street, and Dennis Creek Road.

Authorities say there have been five air conditioner thefts in Upper Township, four thefts in Dennis Township, and 10 thefts in Middle Township to date.

State Police urge businesses to use alarms and surveillance cameras and remain well lit at night.
